Employers, managers and leading staff want to have the best of their people. Career counselling provides clarity in the possibilities and impossibilities related to people's work and career. Thus, wishes and fields of interests of employers and employees can be joined together and fine-tuned with each other.
Individual career counselling leads to insight into a person’s own possibilities and ambitions. Career counselling could be the start of a training course or coaching programme, but it can also result in a change in function or employer. Our approach is aimed at you taking control of your own situation and making motivated choices.
When career counselling?
From an employer’s point of view you consider it important that your employees are able to develop themselves. You'd like to hire people who are motivated, so that you will be able to make use of their talents in the best possible way.
If so, it is important to get a clear view into the qualities and possibilities of your employee and of the best possible direction into which he can development himself. Career counselling supports your employee in obtaining a clear-cut professional perspective and in drawing up an action plan for the short and the long term. After having followed the career counselling programme the employee is capable of defining who he is, what he wants and how he is going to achieve his objectives.
From an employee’s point of view it is important that he is able to develop himself. The employee could struggle with questions like: How can I shape my career in such a way that I feel comfortable in my function? I now get the opportunity to develop myself, but how can I match this with my talents and possibilities? How do I get more pleasure out of my work? How do I find a balance between my work and my personal life?
When making career choices it is important that the employee consciously considers his qualities, drives, wishes and possibilities. During the interviews with the career coach these aspects are analysed together with the employee. In that fashion the employee will gradually become aware of his strong sides and how he can make the best of them. The coach will stimulate the employee and offer guidelines to create new opportunities. A purposeful action plan will then be drawn up with which he sets the course to develop further.
Method
In order to obtain an insight that is as complete as possible, we start the career counselling programme with a personality survey. By means of questionnaires, tests and a biographical interview, the employee's personality, competences, drives, fields of interests and levels of working and thinking are mapped. The candidate's personal characteristics and professional interests are then transposed to career opportunities and possibilities.
After a concrete professional orientation has been determined, the employee is subjected to practical simulations. Thus, further insight emerges into his points of development, so that the desired function level or function type can be properly filled in. At the same time we will explore the available opportunities in the professional market, either internal or external.
Finally we will draw up an effective action plan in order to realize the intended objectives.
Because of the legibility of this text we have used the he-form. It goes without saying that where there is mention of “he” or “his”, you can also read “she” or “her”.
